Since I took the day off from exercise, today’s biggest ankle related challenge turned out to be appropriate footwear selection. CMB and I got gussied up to attend an evening fundraising auction for our son’s middle school, and none of my sneakers (the most sensible shoe choice for a healing injury) matched my dress. I know, I know- cry me a river. But I’m happy to report that I did not shed any tears of disappointment over not being able to wear the new heels I purchased a couple of weeks ago for this occasion. I gave considerable thought to wearing flip flops, which are pretty unsupportive as footwear goes (at least my center of gravity would remain low, I rationalized) but those were also too casual. Straps! Sandals with ankle straps were just the ticket, I decided. So I dug through my closet and surfaced with a pair which not only matched my purse and complimented my dress, but also happened to be 4-inch wedges.
Oh no you did not, VJB! (you’re probably thinking)
Oh yes I did- I threw comfort and caution to the wind and wore them anyway. I looked great and felt fine for a while, at least. Eventually, it became difficult to ignore the pulsing and throbbing- and I’m not describing the music, this was a school sponsored event. However, once I retired to a seat I was able to redirect my spirits and take the discomfort in stride, knowing there was an I-told-you-so-ice pack waiting for me at home.
While you’ve been motivating me bit by bit over these past 17 weeks, it took until today for it to all kick in. I don’t have a swollen ankle, I don’t have to click out double digit miles… So I hit the road and took a 26 minute jog this am. Kinda an homage to you. You’re welcome. 🙂
Hooray! That’s FAB!!! …thank you
