WEEK 11 DAY 4

Consistency is key to marathon training.  Flying by the seat of my pants, once in a while,  is essential to keeping it interesting.

At 9am, I dropped my daughter off for tennis camp at a club very close to UEF.  I planned to pop in, leave my keys, and take off for an outdoor 5 mile run from the gym since I had a training appointment scheduled at 10am.  What I lack in consistency I make up for in efficiency.  But when I walked in the door to Brick class already in session, I couldn’t bring myself to leave.  I quickly rationalized that replacing some of my running with spinning would probably be beneficial.  I could employ some different leg muscles and save my running muscles for Saturday’s 18-miler.  Per usual, I got an awesome workout and a bonus treat- a reunion with one of my Best Bootcamp Buds!

Because of my training session, I skipped the stretching portion of class and logged some more time on the treadmill.  It’s a good thing that Heather Skoda is also a self-proclaimed sweat-er, and wasn’t phased by my dripping and rank body.  She led me through a series of back, shoulder and core exercises using the TRX, kettle bells, a bosu ball, a stability ball and dumbbells- and didn’t pause to hold her nose once.  I was left with just enough time to race home and shower before noon camp pick-up, an act for which the other parents I encountered were very thankful.
