I have some good news and some bad news. Bad news first. Today I suffered my first injury of this 18-week marathon training. Good news- my leg is not nearly as bruised as my ego.
As it so happens, I took a spill on my day of Rest. Well not only on my day of Rest, but also on top of a small child. Really. But in my defense, I woke up at 5:45am to prepare for my kids’ swim meet. 7:15 am- we arrive at the pool and I set up our belongings near the top of the concrete bleachers. Red flag- I was only half way through my second cup of coffee. I should have know better than to clamor down the bleachers (in flip flops) to apply kids’ sunscreen. I made it down unscathed, it was the return trip that proved more difficult. Somehow (those of you who know of my coordination and grace will find this unbelievable) my foot caught on one of the steps which in turn sent me skidding across concrete and flailing on to an unsuspecting child.
“Are you OK?” he choked out from under my klutzy mass.
OMG! I’ve crushed a child and my leg is bleeding and its not even 7:30am!
At this point I probably should have called it a day, thrown in the rally towel (swim team humor). However, a back to back swim meet and baseball game would not afford me such luxury. More bad and good news- while a Bay Area heat wave kept me from logging any post swim meet, post baseball game, afternoon miles, I did manage to make it through the day with my remaining limbs in tact.

That fall was not very jenellegant. Embarrassing for more than just you. 🙂
Hope it’s healing well.
