Each year, at roughly the same time, my commitment to health and fitness inevitably wavers. The atmosphere undergoes unsavory changes, holiday preparations give way to a time sucking vacuum, a mostly well-oiled routine is disrupted, and the intensity of my workouts follow suit. I usually try and comfort myself with the knowledge of repeated experience (this really does occur every year) that during this period of time, it is perfectly acceptable to have the goal be fitness maintenance rather than fitness excellence (relatively speaking, of course). But with each sub par performance week that passes, I’m increasingly befuddled as how to break free from this self-imposed rut.
Unfortunately, a similar downward spiral in my creative life usually coincides with this underproductive physical period, as is evident in the absence of any blog postings in months. The craziest thing is there has not been a lack of blog worthy moments during this time.
*There was my embarrassing/comical (after the fact) run in with a wooden box at CrossFit:
*A WT topless (relax, I was wearing a sports bra) Thanksgiving run with CMB through my parents’ swanky retirement community, where I may or may not have sent several unsuspecting residents in to cardiac arrest:
*A post wine drinking & chocolate eating sister-bonding Christmas run with the visiting OJ, *Several CrossFit PRs including the mastering of my own domain SNATCH,
*A couple of weeks down and out with the flu where I could neither exercise at all nor eat much of anything (shocking!):
*And finally, the most ridiculous attempt at a trail run ever with my good pal, TPM– where we spent more time laughing than running and not because anything was particularly funny:
So hopefully if you’re still reading this post, you haven’t completely given up on VJB. Please bear with me as I attempt to get my groove back and I hope to promise to will try really, really hard to produce with more regularity (insert bathroom joke of your choice). xxoo
