WEEK 13 DAY 7

Today  I gave new meaning to the word rest.

/rest/ verb 8. the act of sleeping the day away with brief periods of wakefulness to eat.

I blame my adaption of this most recent definition on One Direction… and the 19 miles I ran on Saturday.  Why blame an adorable and musically talented (?) group of boys for my newest interpretation of the rest day?  Well, my 10-year old daughter and I made plans with friends to see the band’s newly released movie the same afternoon as the 19-miler.  Following a long run I usually shower, eat, hang out and nap for more than 20 minutes.  But my little groupie was so excited and concerned that I might sleep through the viewing time that-how do I put this and still maintain my title of MOM OF THE YEAR?- I only slept for 20 minutes and not because that’s all that time would allow.  Anyway, we had a fabulous time with great friends but I still blame those five cute little boys for how tired I was today.

I first woke at 6am to an incessant grinding in my stomach.  Food.  Sleep. Food.  Sleep. Food.  Food.  Food.  FOOD.  I gave in after about 10 minutes of arguing and stumbled down the stairs for a pacifying bowl of cereal.  As I half-consciously noshed, I pondered the reason for my  body’s disgruntled state.  I tallied what I consumed yesterday and realized that I’d probably fallen very short of replacing a fraction of the hundreds, if not thousands, of calories I had burned.  To be clear, I love eating but the sentiment is not reciprocal on long run days.  So I’m forced to make up for it the next day.  Would it be completely disgusting to eat peanut M&Ms at 6am?

After deciding the answer to this question was a resounding YES, I crawled back up the stairs and in to bed.  With little effort, I quickly fell back to sleep where I stayed until 9:15am.  Deja vu- back down the stairs in to the kitchen.  More food.  Hang time with my kids on the couch.   Food.  Shower.  Sat on the bleachers at my son’s football game.  Home to the couch.  Food.  Nap on the couch.  Made dinner.  Ate dinner.  Couch.  Thought about big bag of M&Ms in the pantry but getting them would have required getting up off the couch.  Bed.  Sleep.
